Looking for a unique gift for Mum this Mother’s Day?

Want to give her something special that lets her know you appreciate her for the love and care she has shown you throughout the year?

Tired of giving her the usual flowers which everyone else is also giving their mums?

Why not give her a Unique Spa Experience instead? Something she will appreciate and remember forever and at the same time give her a well deserved rest on her special day?

Add your personal touch by creating a DIY Home Spa experience?

It’s easier than you think!!

All you need is some basic know-how and planning…..

Here are some ideas you can consider:

For example, you could start her day with breakfast in bed….make it something light, like yoghurt and fresh fruit with some toast. I suggest you use the same fruits that you can use for your home made Spa Treatment facial.

Antioxidant Strawberry Face Mask:

¼ cup of extra-ripe strawberries
1 teaspoon of honey
Mash the strawberries and mix with the honey to form a paste.
Leave it on your face for at least 20 minutes and wash off.
Strawberries are a rich in antioxidants, leaving skin feeling tight and youthful.

Moisturizing Avocado mask (for dry skin):

1/2 ripe avocado
1 egg white
Mash avocado into a thick paste. Add egg white and mix.
Apply to face. Leave on 15-20 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water.

Frizz Tamer for Hair:

1/2 cup conditioner
1/4 cup honey
1 tbsp almond oil
Mix ingredients well. Pour mixture over damp hair and work it in. Leave it on for about 20 minutes for a good deep conditioning. Wash out. This works for all hair types.

For Puffy Eyes:

Chill some cucumber slices
Close your eyes and layback.
Place the slices over each eye for 10-15 minutes.
Gently wipe away any residue with cool water.
Apply eye cream
Cucumber acts as an anti-inflammatory agent and gets to work in just a few minutes.

Milk bath:

Add 2 to 4 cups of fresh milk to running water in your bathtub.
Soak for at least 20 minutes.
Shower to rinse
Proceed with a sugar body scrub

Brown Sugar Scrub:

½ cup of brown sugar
¼ cup of honey
Add 3-4 drops of essential oil if you have some around
Mix into a paste and rub all over body, focusing on the rough spots like elbows and heels.
Rinse off with cool water and enjoy smoothness of your skin and nice smell.

Note: You will probably want to customize your Spa Treatments based on Mum’s preference and what fruits and vegetables you can buy from the grocery store the day before.

Now, to complete the whole experience, think about setting the right mood…..

Fill her senses of touch, taste, sight and smell with everything that you know will make her feel relaxed and pampered!

For example, why not try aromatherapy with this Basic Recipe:

All you need is some water, chopped flower blossoms (use lilac or lavender if blossoms unavailable).

Place the flower blossoms in a bowl, add the water and then cover them and leave them overnight. The next day, the solution can be put into small bottles and sprayed either into the air or on to her skin.

Use the same flowers to decorate the bathroom, so that it looks like a professional Spa Salon.

Light some aromatic candles and cut off the glare from any windows.

Create a romantic and relaxing ambience for Mum to have her bath.

Play her favorite music on a portable DVD player and make sure she has plenty of soft, plush towels, bathrobe and slippers ready.

Finally, don’t forget about lunch! How about some cucumber sandwiches, with a fruit salad and chamomile tea? Keep it light and detoxifying.

You want mum to feel like she is hanging out in a luxurious Day Spa!

Remember, it’s not the cost, but the thoughts that count……this attention to details and planning will let mum know that you have placed her on the top of your list and taken into account her needs. I’m sure she will remember this DIY Home Spa Treat forever!
